Go Swimming In Salerno

Salerno is a city situating long the littoral of the Mediterranean Sea, so...

the residents of this Paradise (it's my all life dream) need only cross the way...

to reach the beaches of the city. What can I say you, it's sooooo nice... but dangerous. The water of the sea in the city is full of all sorts of wastes: from -pardon- shit of every provenience till bacterias causing furuncles as happend to us when we went to swimm here once about 13 years ago. This year the beach was closed for this reason till the purifier was finally repared.

But the residents laugh only about these dangers.

In any case, after that bad experience we never went more to swimm in the city. We prefere to make a long-long road til Paestum where the water of the sea is completely different.

There is a large belt of pine and eucalipt planting where companies of people hide from the sun on midday...

As always all refuses are left on the ground after these picknicks so that at the end of summer it's unpossible to find a place where to put a feet in these plantings...

But the sea is great, the sand is so mild, the air is incredible...

Ah... From the 1 august we will go every day there. My husband has his vacation finally...

Happy Birthday to Nevada Big "70"

What All These Persons Are Doing? -Quitz

This collection of photos comes from Linkinn.com a site that I like very much because find somethin interesting every time I visit it.

So the question is: what are all these persons doing? Dancing? Are they VIPs and Stars?
No. They are TOURISTS!

And where are they and what are they doing?
The answer you will find at the end of this quitz.

So, where is this place where every tourist becomes great wish to dance???

In... Italy! It's Pisa. And this is the square with the Leaning Tower, the Cathedral and Baptistry.

And why all they dance in this square???? Look here:

They all want to make a photo where they are maintaining the Leaning Tower.
All of them. Every tourist has the same idea in the head.
Maybe we are all equal.

Pizza Near The Sea

Pls visit my new site "Mystic Gemstones"

If you like to pass time or to eat near the sea, you have to come in Salerno. The town is not very great and if you have a car, you can go out in the evening to pass some time near the sea sitting in one of the numerous "half-wild" pizzerias.

For about 20 km the road that is called litoranea goes near the sea, over the beach practically. There are free or paid beaches or beaches with paid parking. But I tell you now about the evening hours, so the beaches do not interest us in this post.

Many of these structures are built so as you see on this photo:

They are made for the persons that come here in the daytime, but in the evening -and all the year long- they are open for pizzeria and restaurant visitors. So, if you go in a place like this you sit practically over the beach and the breath of the sea and the wind caress you.

Why I call them half-wild? Because they are made not as permanent buildings where you normally eat, but are "temporary"(even if they are here at least for 13 years).

After that you can find a paar of places where you can sit some more and enjoy the night, the sea, the breath of the sea and the wind. Maybe you like to bath in the night?

I like these evenings very much. They are equal in summer and in winter because the weather is not very different here. It's relatively warm even in december. Ah, I like pizza near the sea...

The Navigli: Milan's hippest neighbourhood

You may not read about it in travel magazines or newspapers yet The Navigli has long been Milan’s hippest and most happening neighbourhood. It was when we wrote Lonely Planet’s Best of Milan four years ago and having just spent a month there again renting an apartment on Ripa di Porta Ticinese overlooking the liveliest part of the canal (navigli means canals, and there are in fact two), we can say with some authority that it still is the place to go for aperitivi (early evening drinks and snacks) and, boasting some of Milan’s best ristorantes, trattorias and enotecas, it’s also the neighbourhood to head for dinner. Curiously, however, most of the major guidebooks leave it out or give it little coverage, and very few review its restaurants. Yet the streets are buzzy every night of the week. While mid-week sees local art students, aspiring models and bohemian types filling the tables at the pavement bars and eateries, on the weekends the streets heave with Italians from other parts of the city, along with foreigners (expats and travellers), although very few compared to the Brera. There’s no other area in Milan that has an atmosphere as buzzy as the Navigli nor has the density of excellent eateries and bars. And it’s not only an after-dark destination. The canals are lined with myriad bookshops, art galleries, antique shops, and vintage clothes stores (pictured). In a sprawling car park at the end of the main drag there’s a grungy clothes market every Saturday that sees the city’s Goths trekking here, while on the last Sunday of the month there’s an antiques fair that lines both sides of the canal. Save a visit until late afternoon when you can browse the shops, have an aperitivo overlooking the water, listen to some jazz, and then stay on for dinner.

Crayfish that my grandson caught today at the river, poor thing was barely alive, he said he was going to cook and eat it, i said put it in the pond but i guess he wanted to eat it, don't know if he did or not.

Crayfish, also called crawfish or crawdad, are closely related to the lobster. More than half of the more than 500 species occur in North America, particularly Kentucky (Mammoth Cave) and Louisiana in the Mississippi basin. Crayfish also live in Europe, New Zealand, East Asia and throughout the world, including the Tristan da Cunha Islands. Nearly all live in freshwater, although a few survive in salt water. Crayfish are characterised by a joined head and thorax, or midsection, and a segmented body, which is sandy yellow, green, or dark brown in colour.

Random musings from the road: Italy

Some random thoughts and observations after a couple of weeks on the road in Northern Italy (and two and a half months in Italy in total) from my traveller's notebook:
* Italians are the most cultured people in the world - barely a conversation passes with the Italians we meet without mention of a great composer or musician, of an art movement or artist, of architecture and photography, of food and wine. Caravaggio is much more likely to to come up in conversation with an Italian than Kate Moss, grapes more than gossip. The only celebrity name to cross any lips has been George Clooney, but then he's an honorary Italian anyway.
* Italians are the most civilized people in the world - the more we observe and compare the everyday life of the locals with the behavior of tourists on holidays, we're convinced of this. While the Italians drink wine with meals, including lunch, tourists sip cans of Coke. While the Italians order several courses and savour a meal slowly, tourists stick to one dish or settle for a slab of pizza. While the tourists wander the streets at night in Birkenstocks and shorts, the Italians dress up or, even when they're dressed casually, look as if they've dressed up. While the Italians sit on a park bench and read a book, the tourists text messages home on their CrackBerries.
* Nobody knows how to live like the Italians - they start work late (compared to most Western countries), they take several hours off in the afternoon for a long lunch and siesta, they return to work in the evening for a couple of hours, then they head out to meet friends or family to socialize over dinner or drinks. They work to live rather than live to work. What's not to love about that?
